Why I Chose to Practice Medicine Differently

IMG_5716.jpg

10 years ago, I was on the other side of the bed,

a patient, navigating the healthcare system myself.

I had things going on, but no one was getting to the root cause.

I was often told I was “fine,” yet I didn’t feel like myself. I remember leaving appointments with more questions than answers.

That experience and the process I went through ultimately motivated me to pursue nursing, and later become a nurse practitioner, so I could care for patients differently.

It’s a big part of why I practice medicine the way I do today.

If you’ve ever left a doctor’s appointment thinking,

“That was it?” …you’re not alone.

You waited weeks to be seen, spent maybe 10–15 minutes in the room, and walked out with a prescription but no real answers.

And deep down, you know something is still being missed.

The Problem With Modern Healthcare

The truth is most of what we call “healthcare” today isn’t actually designed for health. It’s designed for volume, speed, and insurance billing.

Doctors are often forced into short, rushed visits, checking boxes instead of asking deeper questions, treating symptoms instead of investigating root causes, and referring out instead of truly guiding care.

Over time, this creates a system where patients feel unheard… and providers feel burned out.

What Gets Lost: The Root Cause

When care becomes rushed, we stop asking the most important question:

Why is this happening in the first place?

Instead, we see quick fixes, temporary solutions, and symptom suppression.

Symptoms are managed but not understood.

Care becomes about reacting to symptoms instead of understanding why they’re happening.

Because those are band-aids, not answers.

Why I Chose Direct Primary Care

That’s exactly why I chose a Direct Primary Care (DPC) model.

Because I wanted to remove the biggest barrier in healthcare:

the middleman.

With DPC, care becomes simple again:

You have direct access to your provider

Visits are longer and unrushed

We can actually dive into your story

Care is personalized, not protocol-driven

One of the biggest benefits that patients don’t always realize right away is access.

With direct primary care, you don’t always need to run to urgent care or wait days for an appointment when something comes up.

In fact, about 90% of acute concerns can be handled through virtual care,

whether that’s a quick message, phone call, or video visit.

These can often be addressed quickly and efficiently without ever stepping into an office.

This not only saves you time and stress, but it also allows you to get care earlier before something minor turns into something bigger.

And most importantly…

It gives you the time, attention, and thoughtful care you deserve

What Whole Focus Health Stands For

At Whole Focus Health, we don’t just look at one symptom or one lab.

We look at you as a whole person:

Because true healing doesn’t come from quick fixes.

It comes from understanding the full picture.

The Difference You’ll Feel

“I finally feel heard.”

“Someone actually took the time to explain what’s going on.”

“I understand my body now.”

“I’m not just being handed a prescription anymore.”

This is the power of restoring the provider-patient relationship, the way it was always meant to be.

This Isn’t Anti-Western Medicine

This isn’t about rejecting conventional medicine.

It’s about using it appropriately.

Emergency care and acute interventions are incredible tools.

But for chronic symptoms and preventative care, we need more.

We need time.

We need connection.

We need root-cause medicine.

A Return to What Healthcare Should Be

Healthcare should feel like partnership, clarity, and support.

That’s what I’ve built at Whole Focus Health.

This is the kind of care I once needed.

And now it’s the care I’m proud to give.
